In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Tern has voluntarily issued a safety recall on its 2012-2014 model year Link Uno, Link D7i, Link D8, Link P9, Link P7i, and Link P24h bicycles.
The recall issue
These bicycles have been recalled because the frame can crack at the hinge on the top tube. If this happens, it poses a fall hazard to riders. The recalled Tern bikes were sold at authorized Stile/Tern dealers nationwide between November 2011 and April 2014 for between $600 and $1,250.
There have been 11 reported incidents of the bicycle frame cracking, including 5 reports of minor scrapes and bruises (all occuring outside of the U.S).
How to identify if you have this bicycle
This recall involves 2012-2014 Tern Link folding bicycles. The models recalled are the Link Uno, Link D7i, Link D8, Link P9, Link P7i, and Link P24h.
The bikes have the brand name “Tern” on the front end of the top tube and the model name on the top tube's middle portion. They were sold in black/blue, black/green, black/grey, black/red, dark grey/light grey, grey/orange and white/pink color combinations.

Recalled bicycles have a 10-character alphanumeric serial number that begins with either AI1133 through AI1137 or AI1151 through AI1213 stamped on the bottom bracket shell of the bike. The alphanumeric service tag number is located on the front of the seat tube. You can verify whether your bicycle is affected on Tern's website.
If you have one of these bicycles, please stop riding it immediately and return it to us (or your nearest authorized Tern retailer) so that we can replace the recalled frame. Consumers will receive a free replacement frame and have it installed at no cost or they can upgrade their bike to one of three designated models at an additional cost.
